Written evidence will need to be forwarded to St John for verification. Each application will be judged on its individual merits by the Principal Trainer. Applications must be received at least 4 weeks prior to commencement of the course.
If your certificate has recently expired (within 2–3 weeks) you can complete a refresher course, otherwise you will be required to re–sit the Apply First Aid course (formally know as Level2, Senior First Aid) which is available in either a one or two day format.
Once you have renewed your Level 2 certification you will then be able to enrol in an advanced first aid course.

Yes, first aid knowledge and techniques change all the time. Therefore it is important that you complete a new course to remain informed with changes made to improve the delivery of first aid.
It is not a legal requirement to complete a resuscitation course each year. However, the Australian Resuscitation Council (www.resus.org.au) recommends that first aiders should be able to demonstrate their resuscitation skills on a regular basis. St John recommends that a refresher course is done every year to ensure that a first aider is able to effectively perform resuscitation.

When you complete a St John Senior First Aid course, you complete the requirements for both a St John Senior First Aid certificate and the requirements for the national competency HLTFA1A Apply Basic First Aid. Many national vocational qualifications (eg. Certificate III in Children's Services) require the completion of the HLTFA1A competency.

Most of the assessment in St John first aid courses is practical and does not require extensive reading. St John will adjust assessment to take account of the needs of individual students.
