Code of Practice

St John Ambulance Australia (Victoria) Inc (SJAA) will ensure that qualified and experienced trainers are used to conduct all training courses.

Trainers will present approved course material to meet the appropriate standards. Assessments will be conducted in a fair, objective and consistent manner to determine a person's level of competency.

Course content and learning outcomes will vary according to the course type and duration. If required, this information may be obtained by contacting our Customer Service Section.

Workplace Health and Safety

St John Ambulance Australia (Victoria) Inc has a responsibility to provide a safe and healthy environment for their employees, customers and visitors.

Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2000 course participants also have certain responsibilities. These include:

  • Undertaking activities in a safe manner
  • Following instructions provided for safety
  • Not putting themselves or anyone else at risk
  • Reporting an injury/illness or 'near miss' to an appropriate person.

Privacy Policy

Your Privacy is respected by St John Ambulance Australia (Victoria) Inc (SJAA). Personal information collected about you will be used in the course of SJAA's business so that it may provide training to you. So that you will maintain a current First Aid certificate, we will normally remind you before your current First Aid certificate expires and invite you to renew it.

From time to time SJAA also sends information to people on its mailing list about First Aid kits, training courses and other services.

In accordance with the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000, we invite you to advise us if you wish to have your name removed from our mailing list. If you have privacy concerns or do not wish to receive this information, contact our Customer Service Centre.

Advertising Policy

SJAA ensures that its marketing and advertising is ethical. Our privacy policy ensures that written permission is obtained from course participants before any information about them is used in any marketing or promotional material.

Flexible Delivery

St John Ambulance Australia (Vic) will offer flexible delivery including:

  • Alternative course time and dates
  • A second assessment of competencies which were not achieved at the first assessment

Recognition of Prior Learning

St John Ambulance Australia (Vic) recognises First Aid qualifications or statements of attainment that comply with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and are issued by another Registered Training Organisation (RTO) – for the certificate's remaining period of currency. If the individual is able to demonstrate relevant experience, an assessment may be appropriate in accordance with St John's Training Protocols: Recognition of Prior Learning. An application form is available from the Principal Trainer at St John Ambulance Australia (Vic). This incurs a fee.

Grievances

Students have the right to seek redress if they feel that they have been unfairly treated by St John Ambulance Australia (Vic). The procedure is a follows:

  • Discuss the grievance with the trainer of the First Aid course.
  • If the resolution is unsatisfactory, place the grievance in writing and discuss with the Principal Trainer.
  • If a satisfactory resolution can still not be reached then finally, write to the CEO outlining the grievance.

Code of Practice for Training

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Current Competence (RCC).

Holder of a First Aid qualification which is either an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualification or statement of attainment issued by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), in Australia, will be recognised by St John at its equivalent level, for its remaining period of currency. For any other First Aid equivalent qualification issued by another training organisation and/or where an individual is able to demonstrate relevant experience, the holder will need to seek recognition by St John and may be subject to assessment appropriate to their certificate level by a State/Territory Centre. This assessment is to be carried out in accordance with Training Protocols: Recognition of Prior Learning (this will incur a fee).
