Extraordinary roles available

Cadets (11-17 years)

Whilst first aid is a key focus of what you do as a St John Cadet, you'll also develop leadership and social skills in a spirit of community service. Once you turn 14, there are opportunities for further training in areas such as Senior First Aid and advanced resuscitation.

As a St John Cadet, you can earn proficiency badges in activities including counter disaster and communication, and others covering many health and recreational topics, culminating in the much sought after Grand Prior's Badge for outstanding achievement.

As a St John Cadet you can:

  • Learn life saving first aid skills
  • Attend first aid duties, assisting ill and injured members of the public in a caring and supervised environment
  • Enhance your career opportunities in the health care industry
  • Belong to an active and vibrant youth program
  • Attend recreational camps, youth leadership and promotion courses
  • Become a leader and assist to train younger cadets
  • Meet new people and make life long friends

"Helping out at this camp helped me realise that so much can be done to enrich the lives of young people… and the lifelong friends the kids and I had made just made the camp a complete success and such a highlight in my life."

Cynthia

"I started as a volunteer when I wanted to be a nurse and help people three years ago. Although my career aspirations have changed, I don't regret my decision to join. I love the chance I get to help people."
